Layout requirements
The pcb requires a specific area in order to fit all components and is customized to the enclosure. Connectors, controls, indicators, displays and antennas etc are placed in order to fulfil requirements from the external design (or enclosure). Cost restrictions and standards also affect the pcb geometry.
Finished board (PCBA)
When the pcb geometry is set and connectors etc. are placed the rest of the components are placed and the routing begins. ESD traps and TVS diodes and varistors are placed where they are most effective. Components and filters are placed in order to effectively fulfill EMC and certification requirements. This is an iterative process where many components are moved around in order to optimize routing och functionality.
